Home CCTV installation in Mildenhall and Suffolk

Good home CCTV is less about the number of cameras and more about where they point. Solarsat plans cameras around the places that matter at your house, then sets the system up so you can see what is happening from your phone, whether you are in the next room or away for the week.

Phones and email Monday to Saturday, 8:30am to 6pm. Showroom visits by appointment.

Where cameras make the most difference

We walk round with you and agree what each camera needs to show before choosing positions. Some homes need two cameras, others need more, depending on the layout and the ways in.

  • Front door

A camera at head height, angled to capture faces clearly, helps with deliveries and visitors as well as security.

  • Driveway

Cars and the approach from the road, with the camera placed so headlights do not glare straight into the lens.

  • Side gates and passages

Narrow routes round the house are a common way in, and one well-placed camera can watch the whole path.

  • Rear garden

Wider views of the garden, back door, sheds and outbuildings, the areas nobody sees at night.

  • Garage and outbuildings

Bikes, tools and garden equipment are often kept here, and a camera on the doors adds protection where there is no alarm.

On your phone, wherever you are

Every system we install can be viewed from a smartphone app, so you can check live pictures, look back through recordings and receive intrusion detection notifications when the cameras spot someone where they should not be. Alerts can be tuned so passing cars and swaying branches do not set them off all day.

Two-way audio lets you speak through a camera, which is handy for telling a courier where to leave a parcel or letting someone know they have been seen. We set up the app on your devices and show everyone in the household how to use it.

Think about where recordings will be stored, too. A recorder inside the house keeps capturing footage if the internet drops, and it should sit somewhere out of sight but easy to reach.

Cottages and period homes

Older houses and listed buildings need a lighter touch. We look for discreet positions under eaves and on less visible walls, choose compact cameras in colours that blend in, and route cables through lofts and voids where possible rather than across the front of the house.

If your home is listed or in a conservation area, ask your local council whether consent is needed for fixings on the outside. We can plan positions with that in mind.

Night-time lighting is worth a look as well. A camera that sees well in daylight can struggle if the only light after dark is a porch lamp shining straight at it, so we take the evening view into account.

If you rent your home

Tenants can have CCTV too, but fitting cameras usually means drilling into the building, so you will need your landlord's permission first. A short note setting out where the cameras will go and how the cables will run makes that conversation easier.

Whether you own or rent, think about what the cameras can see. If they record beyond your boundary, for example a shared drive, the street or next door's garden, data protection rules may apply, so we aim each camera at your own property wherever we can.

When you move out, cameras can usually be taken down and the holes made good, so agree with your landlord in advance what will happen at the end of the tenancy.

Upkeep, and adding an alarm

Cameras live outdoors all year, and spiders, dirt and storms take their toll. Our maintenance plans keep lenses clean, check recordings are being stored and keep the software up to date, so the system works when you need it.

Every so often, check that each camera still shows what you expect. Plants grow, new fences go up, and a camera that was perfect on the day it was fitted can slowly lose its view.

CCTV shows you what happened, while an alarm reacts the moment someone gets in. Pairing cameras with a smart intruder alarm means an alert on your phone can be checked against live footage straight away, and optional 24/7 monitoring is available.
