New, replacement or realigned

If you are not sure which you need, a look at the existing dish usually settles it. Rust on the arm, a cracked LNB cover or a bracket that has worked loose all point towards replacement rather than a simple adjustment.

  • New dish

A dish fitted to a home with no existing installation, positioned and aligned for a strong signal.

  • Replacement

Old, corroded or damaged dishes swapped out, often with fresh cable where the existing run has deteriorated.

  • Realignment

Dishes knocked out of line by wind, ladders or loose brackets brought back to the correct angle.

  • Moving a dish

Relocating a dish to a less visible wall, or after building work, an extension or a roof repair.

  • Bracket and fixings check

Worn wall plugs and loose bolts are tightened or replaced, since a dish that moves in the wind will keep losing signal.

Line of sight and where to mount it

A dish has to point at a specific part of the southern sky, and anything in between, such as a tree, a neighbour's extension or your own chimney, can block the signal. Trees that are bare in winter can cause trouble once the leaves come out, so we bear that in mind when choosing a position.

Most dishes go on a wall or a chimney. Wall mounts are easier to reach for maintenance, while a chimney can give a higher, clearer view when the walls are shaded. We use brackets and fixings suited to the surface, check that older chimneys are sound, and keep the dish as discreet as the line of sight allows.

Getting the alignment exactly right matters as much as the position. A dish that is slightly off can work on a clear day and fail in poor weather, so we fine-tune it for the strongest signal rather than settling for a picture that just about works.

Feeding more than one room

A dish can serve boxes in several rooms. Each feed needs its own cable from the dish, so planning the routes matters if you want a neat result. We run cables outside along discreet lines or inside through lofts and floors, and fit tidy wall plates where they arrive in each room.

If you already have a TV aerial, we can combine the aerial and satellite feeds so each room gets both from one plate. It is also a good moment to decide where each TV will go, especially if you plan to wall-mount screens afterwards.

Plan for the future while the cables are going in. A spare feed to a room you might use later takes little extra effort while we are already on site, and saves another visit if you add a box.

When the picture drops out

Freezing, blocky pictures or a no-signal message usually have a physical cause. Common culprits are a dish nudged out of alignment, a failing LNB on the arm of the dish, water in a connector or a cable damaged by weather or wildlife. Heavy rain can tip a marginal signal over the edge, which is often the first sign a dish needs attention.

We test from the dish to the box to find the fault rather than guessing, then repair or replace whichever part has failed.

Some faults start inside the house rather than at the dish, such as a damaged lead behind the TV, a loose wall plate or a splitter that should not be there. Checking each step in turn is the only reliable way to be sure.

Aerials, wall-mounted TVs, Freesat and AFN

Because we also install TV aerials and mount TVs, we can sort out the whole system in one go: dish, aerial, cabling and a TV fixed to the wall with the leads hidden.

Sky is not the only option either. We also install Freesat dishes and AFN satellite systems, which many households connected to RAF Mildenhall and RAF Lakenheath rely on for US programming.

If you are moving away from a subscription, or want both side by side, we can talk through a dish and cabling layout that serves the rooms you need.
