TV wall mounting in Mildenhall and Suffolk

A wall-mounted TV frees up floor space and looks far tidier than a screen on a stand, but only if it is fixed properly and the cables are dealt with. Solarsat mounts TVs for homes and businesses around Mildenhall, from a one-off visit for a single screen to TVs in several rooms.

Phones and email Monday to Saturday, 8:30am to 6pm. Showroom visits by appointment.

Start with the wall

The wall decides how a TV can be fixed, so we check it before anything else.

Weight and size matter as well. We check the screen's mounting pattern and weight against the bracket and fixings, and large TVs are lifted and hung by two people so nothing is strained or scratched.

  • Solid brick and block

Usually the most straightforward, with fixings chosen to suit the masonry and the weight of the screen.

  • Flint and older stonework

Common in Suffolk cottages and older town houses. Flint is hard and uneven, so we find sound fixing points and avoid cracking the mortar around them.

  • Plasterboard and stud walls

Fixings go into the timber or metal studs, or use fixings rated for the load. Large screens on stud walls need extra thought.

  • Hidden pipes and cables

We check for services before drilling, as they often run vertically above and below sockets.

Fixed, tilting or swivel brackets

A fixed bracket holds the screen close to the wall and gives the slimmest look. It suits rooms where you sit straight in front of the TV with the screen at roughly eye level.

A tilting bracket angles the screen down slightly, which helps when the TV has to sit a little higher or when light from a window causes glare. A swivel or full-motion arm lets you pull the screen out and turn it, useful in an open-plan room or a kitchen where you watch from more than one spot. Arms need a stronger fixing because the weight is held further from the wall, so we match the bracket to both the room and the wall.

In the wall or in trunking

There are two ways to deal with the leads that run down from the TV. The neatest is to route them inside the wall, with a plate behind the screen and another lower down near the equipment. On plasterboard this is often simple; on solid walls it means cutting a channel and making good, which is best done before you decorate.

Where cutting into the wall is not practical, or you would rather not disturb it, slim surface trunking painted to match gives a tidy finish. We also think about power, because a socket behind the screen keeps the mains lead out of sight altogether.

If you are planning to plaster or redecorate soon, let us know. Running cables before the finish goes on is much easier than cutting into fresh plaster afterwards.

Above a fireplace

Over the fireplace is a popular spot, and it can work well with a little planning. The first thing to check is heat. A working fire, particularly a log burner, can send warmth up the chimney breast, and most screens are not designed to sit in it. Height is the second check, because a TV mounted too high strains the neck, so a tilting bracket or a lower position is often the better answer.

Chimney breasts also hide surprises such as old flues, soft brickwork or hollow sections, so we check the structure before fixing. Getting cables down from above a fireplace usually means going round the side of the breast or through an alcove.

Soundbar, aerial and satellite points

Mounting the TV is often the moment to sort out everything around it. We can fit a soundbar on a bracket under the screen, add an aerial or satellite point in the right place, and connect any set-top box, games console or streaming device neatly.

Think about where boxes and consoles will live. A shelf below the screen is simple, while a cupboard nearby keeps the wall clear, as long as the remote controls can still reach the equipment.

Because we also install TV aerials, satellite dishes, speakers and complete AV systems, one visit can cover the whole set-up rather than just the bracket. If your plans grow into a media wall, a cinema room or multi-room sound, our own team can take that on too.
